Welcome to the therapist finder service of the Chicago Association for Psychoanalytic Psychology.
This is a free service provided to the public by our organization. Our members are all highly qualified licensed professionals who have private practices in Chicago or its suburbs. Providers’ fees vary.
All the therapists represented on this site engage in psychodynamic or psychoanalytic psychotherapy; some may also practice psychoanalysis.
The dynamic approach helps the individual to understand both conscious and unconscious thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Each therapeutic pair carves out a unique relationship and course of treatment. The approach is highly individualized. It differs from the behavioral and cognitive approaches in its: focus on emotion and the expression of emotion; exploration of attempts to avoid distressing feelings and thoughts; the identification of recurring themes in ones experiences, thoughts and feelings; discussion of past experiences and their impact on the present; focus on interpersonal relationships including the therapy relationship; and an exploration of fantasy life.
